In this post we share photos from an afternoon in Capitola, California, a charming Monterey-coast seaside town.
About Capitola
Capitola is one of California’s oldest seaside resort towns. Though its history dates back a thousand years due to it being a home village for Indians, it became the tourist destination “Camp Capitola” in the 1870s.
Today, Capitola’s Esplanade, Mediterranean facades, local community events and seaside landscape continue to attract visitors.
First time surfers are common here as the mellow breaks and small waves make it easier to pop upon on a board. There are numerous board and suit rental shops dotting the water.
The colorful Venetian Court cottages at the mouth of Soquel Creek at the north end of Monterey Baywere were built in 1924. Inspired to design a “a second Venice”, these cottages are available to be rented.
